Safeguard Surrender

This document is a guide to surrendering Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs) in the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units (ANREU) in response to a Safeguard Surrender notification.

How to surrender Australian carbon credit units

Australian carbon credit units must be surrendered within ANREU as follows:

The Initiator:

  1. Login to ANREU using your user-id and password;
  2. If an ANREU announcement is present on login you will need to access the announcement and confirm that you have viewed it before progressing to any ANREU activity;
  3. Pending safeguard surrender notifications will be displayed on the ‘Welcome to the ANREU’ page;
  4. Select the ‘View Details’ button of the safeguard surrender notification that you wish to action;
  5. The safeguard surrender notification details will be displayed. Select the ‘Start Transaction’ button;
  6. Select the unit blocks to transfer from your account by placing them in the ‘Quantity to Add’ box and then click the ‘Add’ button;
  7. You may update the number of units you are transferring or confirm your selection by clicking on the ‘Confirm Selection’ button;
  8. Confirm the transaction with your password and click the ‘Submit the Transaction for Approval’ button;
  9. A PIN to approve the transfer will be emailed to all approvers for your account
  10. Log out of ANREU.

The Approver:

  1. Login to ANREU using your user-id and password
  2. If an ANREU announcement is present on login you will need to access the announcement and confirm that you have viewed it before progressing to any ANREU activity;
  3. Click on the Transaction Log menu item;
  4. Select the Transaction ID hyperlink as notified in the PIN email;
  5. Enter the PIN and select the ‘Approve’ button;
  6. Log out of ANREU.

At this point the safeguard surrender is complete.

How to access/view completed safeguard surrender notifications

  1. Login to ANREU using your user-id and password;
  2. If an ANREU announcement is present on login you will need to access the announcement and confirm that you have viewed it before progressing to any ANREU activity;
  3. Select the ‘CER Notifications’ from the left hand menu;
  4. Select the ‘Filter’ button;
  5. Select ‘Complete’ as the status, and select ‘Apply Filters’. The type of transaction can also be filtered ie can filter just by safeguard surrender.
  6. The notifications which have a status of completed will be displayed;
  7. This data can be exported to excel by selecting the ‘Export to excel’ button
  8. To view an individual notification select the ‘View Details’ hyperlink button
