The Clean Energy Regulator publishes a range of data on
emissions-intensive trade-exposed (EITE) activities under the Renewable Energy Target (RET). This includes data on EITE companies that have been issued exemption certificates, exemption total by activity and
liable entities that have used exemption certificates for their RET annual reporting.
Full exemption certificates have been issued from 2015 onwards. Partial exemption certificates were issued for the 2010–14 application years and are identified in the data where applicable.
Latest exemption certificates issued is all exemption certificates whether exemption certificates have been cancelled or not are listed. The data includes the EITE entity (company), EITE activity and the date of publication. Exemption certificates are published within 14 days of issuance.
Amount of exemptions issued by activity is the amount of exemption for each EITE activity in megawatt hours (MWh) by calendar year. This data is published by 30 March in the year following the year of exemption.
The data is subject to revisions if exemption certificates are issued or amended after 30 March.
Amount of exemption used by liable entities is the exemption certificates used by liable entities (generally electricity retailers) for their annual reporting purposes. This data is published by 1 October following the year of exemption.
The data is subject to revisions after 1 October to reflect changes to exemption certificates and changes the liable entity’s reduced
relevant acquisitions of electricity.
The Clean Energy Regulator is required to publish this data under the section 38C of the
Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 and the regulation 22E of the
Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001.
