The purpose of this regulatory advice is to clarify the application of air conditioning factors (Schedule 7) when calculating abatement for a lighting system, for projects using the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative—Commercial and Public Lighting) Methodology Determination 2015 (the determination).

This clarification is necessary as equations 4 and 6 of the determination require the application of an air conditioning factor from Schedule 7 for serviced areas that are cooled or heated. A serviced area is considered to be cooled or heated even if the provision of the cooling or heating is temporary or only to parts of the serviced area. For example, a serviced area is considered to be heated if spot heaters are used temporarily in the winter months.

This means in calculating abatement for a lighting system, the relevant air conditioning factor must be applied if during the reporting period any temporary or spot cooling or heating is provided for the serviced area.
